HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN

So guess what I did. Go ahead, guess. Give up? Okay, I'll tell you. I went out of town. WITHOUT Colby. By myself, sans sweet boy, for a whole 52 hours. And it wasn't even under doctor's orders.

I've been thinking for quite a while now that I needed to do something without Colby. A little somethin-somethin just for me. Not that I don't adore him, and not that I don't want to take him places. But it's been a long time, years actually, since it's been just me, myself and I going somewhere. So I was telling my BFF this several weeks ago. She pipes up and says, okay then, go with us to the lake on July 4th! "Us" being her and her family, as they have a lake house at Lake Cumberland. So after some thought, and many scheduling arrangements later, I did it. I picked Kim up after she got off work on Wednesday, and we headed out to Russell County. And the adventure began…

I must say I had lots of fun, even though it rained the whole time. Oh wait, it didn't just rain, it poured, and poured, and poured. All day Thursday on the 4th. All day. From the time we got up until the time we went to bed. It rained, no wait, it poured. But never fear, fun was still to be had! We had pancakes for breakfast. Lounged around the lake house. Played some 500 Rummy. Kim won, but she cheated. Kim, her sister and I headed out into town. Our first stop was the Mighty Dollar. Holy crap, this place is the best! Everything was a dollar. Just a dollar I say, and the store was huge.  Amazing what stuff, I mean treasures, you find you have to have when it's only a dollar. I spent a whole $7 there. Then we went to Kroger, because somehow my life just isn't complete without multiple Krogering trips on a weekly basis. Went back to camp, hung out, had supper. We got a little stir crazy, so we loaded up in the truck and headed into town so I could see the sights. We drove by a small waterfall, which we renamed Hershey Falls, since the water was flowing so quickly and it was muddy. Drove through the cemetery so they could show me a really cool headstone with a motorcycle on it. I'm not making this stuff up. We were determined to get me on a boat, somehow, someway. So we drove to the marina and took the water taxi over to the store, where we got ice cream. Does that officially count as "boating"?! Went back to the cabin. Played Scrabble. Then the whole family cheated at that nonsense game. They have the patience to sit, exam the board, make a 50-point, double word, triple letter using a J or Z word. I have the patience to make words that total 9 points. I still came in second, despite their goofy rules.

Friday we finally got on the boat! Yippee! It cleared up enough, sort of, to hit the lake. Right when we were putting the boat in the water a freakin' downpour came along. It was bad, yet sort of hilarious at the same time. They showed me all the sights, the dam, 76 Falls. Then we had to haul ass back because the rain was coming in again. Actually we got caught in it again when we were on the lake. A tankini and rain poncho, now that's a stylish look. I loved every second of it, though. Boating is very relaxing if you ask me, in spite of Mother Nature being a total bee-otch during my mini-vaca.

Once we got back to the cabin, it was time for me to head home L Sadness. I didn't want to leave, really, but I did want to get home to my sweet boy. Got home Friday night about 8:30. If I didn't know better, I'd say Colby actually missed me. I missed him like crazy. But I'm glad I went, and had a great time with those crazy peeps. Heck, I fit right in with those goofballs!
